I grew up on a farm in rural Chouteau County, Montana. I went to high school in Fort Benton, Montana and then to college in Bozeman, Montana. I received a Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1996 and a Master's of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1998.
In the summer if 1998 I moved to the Portland, Oregon area and worked there for nine years as a regulatory engineer.
In summer of 2007 I moved back to the family farm and have been there ever since. It's a very big and very nice change from cubicle life and the corporate world.
My hobbies are many and varied. I read. A lot. In a lot of different genres, both fiction and nonfiction. I've studied a number of different martial arts, both eastern and western, and now that I'm a bit more settled in I've started looking for a club to join in Great Falls. I tried rugby briefly while in Portland, but while it was enjoyable it caused more wear and tear on my knees than I liked, and that's about it as far as team sports go. I participated in the heavy events at the Scottish Highland games the last couple years I lived in Portland, and still travel back to Portland to participate in a couple games a year in the summer. I enjoy handicrafts and hope to teach myself a bit of sewing over the coming winter. During the course of the past year I have done a lot more cooking than I used to and have found I really enjoy it. Hopefully this winter I will also try my hand at homebrewing.
